| Installing the files
PLEASE READ THIS TEXT CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU INSTALL SWEDFLIGHT 4.1 THIS TEXT IS ALSO INCLUDED IN THE FILE SWFLDOC.ZIP AS A HTML FILE. USE YOUR WEB BROWSER TO READ IT. DO NOT MIX THE NEW FILES WITH
OLDER VERSIONS OF SWEDFLIGHT
The following description is written for FlightSimulator98. Make folders outside the FS-folder system: C:\FLTADDON\SWEDEN\ (if C:\ is the letter of your hard drive). Make subfolders:
Fig.1 Folder structure (with Norway scenery included) DO NOT PUT THE SCENERY FILES UNDER THE MAIN DEFAULT SCENERY FOLDER IN FS98! The risk for Kernel32 errors is less if the files for non-default sceneries are kept outside the main directory of the simulator. And you get an extra benefit too - you don't have to reinstall all your extra sceneries if you must reinstall the simulator, just install the special default textures and activate the old scenery again!
The Swedflight 4 Scenery contains the following zip files:
IMPORTANT: To get the special nordic look and winter textures on the ground we have enclosed the files: Broad.r8, Broadf.r8, Broads.r8, Broadw.r8, Crops.r8, Cropsf.r8, Cropss.r8, Cropsw.r8, Farm.r8, Farmf.r8, Farms.r8, Farmw.r8, Prarie.r8, Praries.r8, Prarief.r8., Prariew.r8, Tundra.r8, Tundraf.r8, Tundras.r8 and Tundraw.r8 plus some extra. First, find the original files with the same name in your C:\FLTSIM98\TEXTURE (main-directory) and make back-ups or rename them all to xxxxxx.old. THEN COPY OUR 24 MAIN TEXTURE FILES (swf4main.zip) TO YOUR MAIN TEXTURE DIRECTORY: for example C:\FLTSIM98\TEXTURE\
Sorting the BGL files To ensure the proper behavior of the scenery you must sort the BGL files before you start flying the first time. In the \SWEDEN\SCENERY directory is a sorting routine called SWFLSORT.EXE (it was included in the SWFLNAV.ZIP file). Use the RUN command in Windows and write: C:\FLTADDON\SWEDEN\SCENERY\SWFLSORT.EXE and just run it. (This is an example - use your actual path names in the command.) You can also make a Shortcut to that routine of course. Use the sorting routine again whenever you have added or reinstalled any file in the local SCENERY directory of Swedflight (or Norway98 - it has its own sorting routine in the corresponding directory).
Deactivating other sceneries (if needed) The Exclude files that are included in the package SWFLEXCL.ZIP make it possible to have other sceneries covering the Swedish area active. If you however, still have problems with duplicated objects, you must deactive those sceneries that give these disturbances when you use Swedflight. Click on "World/Scenery Library" in the FS98-menu, and OK in the warning dialog box. Click on "Files"/"Scenery Area Files" to enter the listing of installed scenery files. Browse to FS98 CD ROM-Europe and mark the line (black). Click on the EDIT-button, and in the next dialog, click on the button "Scenery Area Active" to deactivate the scenery. Then click OK 3-4 times to leave the Scenery Library and return to normal flight menues. The default Europe-scenery is now deactivated. To reactivate it, repeat the steps above and click the "Active" button.
Activating the new Swedflight scenery Make the scenery active through the Scenery Library menu in the FS98 program. Click on "Scenery Library" in the FS98-menu, and OK in the warning dialog box. Click on the "Add files"/"Add" -button to open the edit scenery area dialog. In the "Scenery Area Path", write the exact path where you installed the scenery files, e.g.: C:\FLTADDON\SWEDEN\SCENERY\*.BGL. (the ending: *.BGL is important). Now when the Title line activates write: Swedflight. Then choose "Local" for the scenery area type and click button "Scenery Area Active". Choose Area layer: 001. If you also fly the Norway98 scenery (which we hope) you must give Area layer 001 for Swedflight and 002 for Norway98. (Sweden must have a lower figure, whatever it is.)
Fig.2 Edit Scenery Area Click OK 2-3 times to leave the Scenery Library. Then go to the Airport-menu. (FS98 users must click the button: : SCENERY FROM 6.0 AND BEFORE ) There you will now find the four menus: SWEDFLIGHT North, SWEDFLIGHT West, SWEDFLIGHT East and SWEDFLIGHT South.
Frame rate and complexity settings Swedflight 4 is a big scenery with a lot of 3D objects. But it still should be possible to run it on a fairly slow computer if you go to the SCENERY COMPLEXITY menu and use SPARSE or VERY SPARSE. You will loose a lot of mountains and other objects but you can instead fly the scenery at a quite acceptable frame rate. Please read also the text about frame rate that is in the FAQ section on our home page. Those of you who have faster computers, > 166 MHz, can try to increase the complexity setting to DENSE or VERY DENSE. Then you will be able to see all the objects we have put in the scenery. To get access to 512 kB of memory in FS98 (instead of 256 kB as default) you must install the Patch Set 1 from Microsoft (this is a must for Swedflight). IMPORTANT: The scenery normally starts with a Complexity setting at NORMAL. So you have to increase it to DENSE or VERY DENSE to see all our efforts at the airports or elsewhere. Happy Flying!!
