The fourth and last upgrade for NORWAY98 is now available at the NORWAY98 download page . The purpose of these last files has been an attempt to make the geography over the southwestern parts of Norway more detailed. All texture files are the same as for the Swedflight scenery with the exception of the special building textures. Credits to Lennart Arvidsson for this.
Some new navigation facilities and airports are added and many other airports are upgraded, and - as mentioned - new and excellent landscape textures adds a total new look to the scenery.

The file Norwtext2.zip had a bug because I instructed Lennart to include a file which was bad, Scandi4.r8. The new version of norwtext2.zip should fix this. The error was the location of a beach near Stavanger, Sola Airport, which obviously became dislocated.
Sorry, my fault!
Regards
Arne Sundsbo.

In order to make Norway98 more realistic have all geographical textures now been changed and given a more varied look. We had new textures for XMAS1-3.zip but these have all been changed to fit the Microsoft flight simulator 98 as well as Microsoft Combat simulator.

Summer textures
Every country has itīs special caracteristic look. High mountains, deep valleys an fjords dominate Norway especially in the west. These three mentioned types of landscape give the nature itsīgeographic profile and beauty. In the summertextures I have tried to recreate the natures fantastic ability to vary, which has given different parts of the country their special appearances. The artic parts are very open, barren and without forests. The landscape in the middle part passes from arctic nature to to a mixture of "rocky" mountains and mountains covered with forests. The highlands in the south have greener forests than in other parts of the country. The Norwegian highlands have in general a great variety so what I have written here is just a simple description. The possibility to recreate the magnificence of the Norwegian landscape in a flight simulator, with the possibilities of simple textures give, are of course limited. However I have tried to catch some of the atmosphere that the Norwegian landscape shows. This is my only aim with this work.

winter textures
In a nordic country, such as Norway, snow dominate the winter. Therefore I have tried to create totaly new series of textures, which a little better than earlier show the difference between forests, mountains and farmlands. The contrats between white and black have been strengthened and now the winterlandscape look a little more realistic.

Based on NORWAY98 for Microsoft Fligh Simulator 98 we have now come up with a scenery specially made for the Microsoft Combat Fligh Simulator. NORCOMB99 is supposed to be a simulation of Norwegian scenery and airports as it was during the last world war. We hope you enjoy flying in the scenery and if you see things that probably are incorrect, just report it to us and we may rectify in update patches. To download go to our Combat page.

In time for christmas we just want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year by presenting a new update for the Norway98 scenery.

We say "We go for 2000". We couldnīt make a new scenery for this year since we all donīt have much time to spare for scenery design. But the plans for the future you will be able to see when you have installed all files in these packages. We want to introduce Lennart Arvidsson as our texturedesigner for our geography design. Lennart and Bengt have been working on a project all autumn called Geomac, which is a tool for making geography in the scenery more exiting.

There is one area represented in this package to show our aims for the future. The area round the airports Stord and Haugesund is now a scenery with a lot of more interesting and realistic geographical objects. Thanks to Leif Ola Madsen who has delivered excelent pictures over the area, this demo-scenery is now what it looks like.

Svein has updated his airports in the northern part of Norway and has among other things added papis to the runways. Arne has of course continued his work on adding yellow lines and making all runways more as they really look like in Norway. Of course he has built many more new houses around all airports.

Fornebu airport was closed beginning of October. Thatīs why you now will find the runways X-ed and closed.

Xmas uppdate is available at the download page.

A fix for NORWAY98 - Nnavfix1.zip is now available at the download page. The file updates some ILS facilities for the Norway98 scenery and corrects a season error in the patch NORSFIX3.ZIP

25.08.98
The third patch for NORWAY98 - NORSFIX3.ZIP is now available at the NORWAY98 download page. The purpose of these last files has been an attempt to make the geography over the western parts of Norway more detailed. All fjords have got a better shape. More roads, lakes, cities and mountais have also been added to this part of Norway. A new coastline from west of Kristiansand to west of Trondheim is made. To learn more check the included text and HTM-files.

The second patch for NORWAY98 is now available at the NORWAY98 download page. The files in NORSFIX2.ZIP makes a few changes to landscape, airports and navaids. Like the first patch NORSFIX.ZIP, which now is obsolete, this patch also makes NORWAY98 compatible with FS98 CD-Europe. You will no longer have to deactivate CD-Europe as you cross the Norwegian border. To learn more check the included text and HTM-files.

According to the announcement, the new Norway Scenery for Flight Simulator 98, -Norway98 - is released to day. The scenery i optimized for use with fsw98 with 3D graphics cards. However, the scenery runs very well with the earlier fsw95 version.

You may download the files from the download-section at this site, and/or at the major flightsim sites on the net (Flightsim.com, wings.ark.com, Mike Marando etc).

We hope you'll enjoy the scenery, and DO read the documentation files in HTML-format before you install the files - IMPORTANT !

All screenshots on the shots-page replaced by new pictures based on 3Dfx graphics card.

30.12.97:

(A small link-addition at the end of this note)

Norway98:

The new scenery of Norway optimized for Fsw98 will not be ready for download in 1997. The work continues almost dayly, but in order to present a best possible product with none or fewest possible bugs, we need more time. All our efforts today is consentrated on this. The launch date is not set, but we'll post information on this site from time to time.

As mentioned earlier we receive buckets of mail asking about everything from the general use of fsw98, aircraft convertion, to known problems/solutions concerning the existing Norway61 scenery. We hope you understand that it is impossible for us to answer these questions for the moment. 90% of the problems in your mail you'll solve by reading our support page at this web-site. Other problems concerning aircrafts and fsw98 you'll find information about in the newsgroups, at the big simm-web-sites, and by searching the net.

No offence though, we still want mail from you, but please do a minor search on your own first. Then, after the launch of Norway98 we will be ready to answer your questions about the old and the new version of Norway for fsw95/98.

Please note that general support for fsw98, aircraft, other add-ons etc. is not the object of this web-site and a task for the authors.

Untill (hopefully) a launch of Norway98 in the near future, we wish you all a happy new year.........enjoy the the new possibillities in the flightsim world (and avoid sim-addiction).

(For simmers familiar with the Norwegian language, we want to draw your attention to this new and excellent web-site called Flightsim.no at this URL:

http://www.flightsim.no/

Here you should find almost everything you need for your flightsim enjoyment.

Strongly recommended: Real Weather for fsw98)

08.12.97

Still working...........(and sweating)

Just wanted to let you all know that the new NORWAY98 project continues. Since this is a total redesign it takes time. If you have experienced a real-life flight from southern Norway, along the coast to the north-cape you will have a clear understanding what we are talking about.

We are testing the scenery in small parts and so far it seems that fsw98 likes the new scenery files....... performance is as good as can be expected (quite all right, actually) compared to the default scenery in fsw98 made by Microsoft, and having the density of the Norway scenery in mind.

The new textures (summer and winter) looks great when running the scenery in 3D with 3Dfx card and advanced 3D options turned on. In fact we strongly recommend installing 3D cards with all features.... it's really another and more realistic world in the simulation.

Launch date ?

Well, we hope to reach you all by christmas time, but to day we wouldn't bet on it. Some of us have certain "before-christmas" duties which have to be taken care of..... (scenery design is not one of them....). Anyway, some day before writing 1998 on the note pad, NORWAY98 should be available for download from the known sites.

04.11.97

A small note about whats going on......

We are receiving lots of mail from simmers asking about the launch time for the upcomimg upgrade. The status is this:

Fsw98 works a bit different than fsw95. We think this has something to do with a new software architecture and the 3D option. This fact results in a very poor frame-rate in some parts of the scenery, even with the 3D option (hardware acelleration) turned on. Areas that works fine in fsw95 really sucks in fsw98. So:

We are now redesigning most of the country after an intense testing periode. We think we now have identified what fsw98 like and what the program does NOT like among the different features and objects in a scenery.

Some of the allready redesigned areas now shows an increase in frame-rate from 60-100% !

Of course this work takes time. In addition we are upgrading many airports, parts of the landscape and new textures for the entire country.

In a couple of weeks or so our beta-testers will receive the first parts for testing. We hope to have the scenery ready for upload sometimes before Christmas, aprox. one year after the first (beta) version Norway6.zip were released in december 1996.

1. Site design and contents

As you probably have noticed already the site is totally redesigned. We hope this new design will give the visitor a better overlook, helping finding the special topics one are looking for.

All download-files available from the download section are now put on the site-server here in Norway.

A new support section has been added to give you information about any known bugs and recommended troubleshooting actions to help you out.

New shots (and some old ones) are provided in the shots-section. The shotsizes have been minimized to reduce loading time.

SASMD90.jpg (7339 bytes)

2. Upgrade plans

For the moment you'll not find any new patches or upgradefiles for the Norway Scenery. But the work continoues and we'll provide new files in separate zip-packages during the next months.

You will find bug-fixes, some new landmarks and a general upgrade of many airports. We'll also upload a new set of replacement textures for the norwegian landscape.

F50SAS.jpg (12525 bytes)

3. Site philosophy

This site will be dedicated to flightsim based on the Norway scenery and with close links to our friends in Sweden, Finland and Denmark. The download section will only contain files connected with this scenery and flightsim in Scandinavia in general. There are lots of other excellent sites which provides updated aircraft, sceneries, utilities etc, available for download, and we reccommend use of these sites. Some of the best sites are linked on our new links section.
